Circumcision

Circumcision is a procedure which involves removing the foreskin (the piece of skin that covers the round tip of the penis) from the penis. Patients choose to circumcise for various reasons. Some patients undergo circumcision for religious reasons. Others undergo this procedure due to medical conditions such as phimosis where the foreskin is too tight to be pulled back, balanitis which is inflammation of glans and foreskin, frenulum breve which is a short frenulum causing tears during intercourse and cancer of the foreskin. There are also a group of patients who choose to undergo circumcision for health benefits such as decreased occurrence of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and reduced risk of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Lastly, circumcision can be for hygiene purposes as the removal of foreskin makes it easier for patients to keep the end of the penis clean.
